It grows 30–60 cm tall and produces large, loose spherical flower heads up to 30 cm across in late spring to early summer. These heads feature dozens of star-shaped mauve-pink florets on stems of varying lengths, creating a dramatic fireworks-like effect. The strap-shaped leaves appear in spring and fade before blooming. Easy to grow in full sun and well-drained soil, it is valued in gardens and for both fresh and dried floral arrangements.
