Hurricane Helene, new staff member & grateful hearts.

Bullington Gardens is happy to announce the hiring of our new Educational Coordinator, Isaac Wyatt. Isaac, a familiar face to many in our community, will now oversee all of Bullington’s educational and horticultural programs. His deep knowledge and passion for plants make him a perfect fit to lead our efforts in providing top-quality learning experiences.

Isaac brings a wealth of experience, having worked with the North Carolina Cooperative Extension program as a program assistant. During that time, he collaborated closely with the Master Gardeners, building strong relationships with many of our dedicated volunteers. His long-standing connection with Bullington Gardens has made it easier to come aboard, and we are so happy to welcome him into this new role. 

Coming into the role during the worst hurricane in the history of Western North Carolina was no easy feat. While nothing will seem ‘normal’, Isaac didn’t seem fazed by the upheaval and rolled with the flow. We are excited for the future with Isaac on board, and we look forward to the incredible contributions he will bring to the gardens, students, and our community.

Hurricane Helene brought significant challenges to Bullington Gardens, with high winds and heavy rainfall causing extensive damage to the landscape and nearby areas. Several trees were uprooted, garden paths were blocked, and parts of the Fairy Village suffered due to the storm's intensity. Despite the devastation, the community quickly rallied together in an inspiring show of support. Volunteers from all over came to assist in cutting trees and clearing debris from the gardens. Their swift and selfless response not only helped to bring Bullington Gardens back to life but also reinforced the spirit of unity and resilience in the face of adversity.

Special thank you to Ron Rich, Art Smith, Gold Point Church of Christ, Two Rivers Church and Oak Grove Christian Church for your energy, time and resources. Your help made a daunting task seem manageable.

As many of you know, recent storms have caused significant damage to the gardens, with many trees down or in need of removal. While volunteers have been invaluable in helping with the cleanup, we now face the challenge of addressing larger trees that require professional tree work to ensure the safety and beauty of our cherished space.
