Even though our winter days have been shorter, we’ve successfully managed some exciting projects. Our Butterfly Breezeway was completed through a grant from Master Gardeners. Located in the new Children’s Garden, it will be planted this spring with flowering annual and perennial vines that will support the life cycles of various butterflies. Children will be invited to waltz through 60 feet of a pollinator tunnel. Because our apiary was a little too close for comfort to the new Butterfly Breezeway, we relocated our bees to a new area. They survived the move and didn’t seem to mind the relocation. An interactive children’s demonstration hive will be added in the new Children’s Garden. A Children’s storybook that was written and illustrated for Bullington is now ready and will become a story walk after the fairy trail is taken down this fall. In the story, the Bullington fairies and Monarchs form a friendship and migrate to Mexico together in the fall. The story, titled ‘The Wings of Friendship’ illustrates the bond that these two have, the struggles they face, and their return every year to the gardens. As we’re getting ready for the annual plant sale, we’re looking for every square inch of growing space to grow all the plants that excite us.
